Collagen Injection & Filler
Two different injections, often confused for one
A hyaluronic acid filler places volume where volume is missing, and you see it the same day. A collagen injection places a biodegradable polymer that prompts your own collagen to form, and the change appears gradually over months. They answer different problems, and the first job of the consultation is deciding which problem you actually have.

Collagen injection is not a filler
This is the distinction we spend most of the consultation on. Neither is better — they behave differently.

How a collagen injection works
The four stages below are why the result of this injection is judged at month three, not on the day.
- 01Before treatmentLines have formed in skin that has lost its own collagen support.
- 02Straight after the injectionThe carrier fluid makes the area look filled immediately. This is water, not the result.
- 03Within a few daysThe fluid is absorbed and only the polymer microspheres remain. The temporary fullness settles.
- 04Over the following monthsThe microspheres break down and disappear, while the collagen formed around them remains — which is where the durable part of the change comes from.

Which one should I have?
If the concern is a hollow that needs filling now — a low nose bridge, a flat forehead, a deep fold — hyaluronic acid answers it on the day. If the concern is a face that has thinned overall and you would rather it changed quietly, a collagen injection is usually the better fit. Many plans include both, in different areas.
I had filler before and it looked obvious. Is this different?
An artificial look usually comes from volume placed too superficially, or from more volume than the face can carry. We plan by layer and by amount, and we would rather do less and review than overfill on a first visit.
How soon will I see a change from a collagen injection?
The area looks filled straight after the injection, but that is the carrier fluid and it is absorbed within days. The actual change builds from around one month onwards as your own collagen forms.
Can I fly home the same day?
The session takes ten to twenty minutes and you can return to ordinary activity straight after. Injection points can be slightly swollen or bruised, so if you are travelling for an occasion we suggest leaving a few days' margin.
How long does it last?
It depends on the product, the area and the individual. Hyaluronic acid fillers are generally described as holding around a year; collagen injections are reported to hold two years or more.
