Textured skin: three causes that look the same, and why the treatment starts with telling them apart
In short Textured skin is a surface that looks or feels uneven, and it usually traces back to one of three things: scarring at the pore opening, loss of the elasticity that holds the pore in shape, or heavy sebum flow that keeps it stretched. At Symphony Dermatology the type is sorted first, and the combination is built around it.

People describe uneven skin texture in many ways: rough, bumpy, grainy, or simply not smooth under make-up. Those words describe what is seen, not why. The Pore Program at Symphony starts from the why, because the three usual causes do not respond to the same treatment.
This page sets out what is read at assessment, what each pattern usually calls for, and how the cost is explained. Where true acne scarring is the main issue, how an acne scar plan is made is the closer read.
Three causes behind textured skin
| Pattern | What is happening | What the plan leans on |
|---|---|---|
| Scar type | The pore opening has been reshaped by past inflammation. The problem is structural rather than functional. | Rebuilding the area, as in scar work |
| Elasticity-loss type | Elastic fibres and collagen around the opening have deformed with ageing, so the pore no longer holds its shape. | Supporting collagen around the opening |
| Excess sebum type | Sebum output is high, keeping the opening stretched and more visible. | Managing oil flow and clearing the pore |
Most skin shows more than one pattern. Which one dominates is what decides the combination, and that is assessed with your doctor.
Four things make any of them worse: high sebum output, ageing and loss of elasticity, UV exposure, and over-exfoliation. The last one surprises people. Scrubbing hard at bumpy skin texture thins the skin layer, which works against the pore rather than for it.
Why surface care alone often falls short
If the opening is wide because the surrounding collagen has weakened, resurfacing the top layer does not reach the cause. If it is wide because a scar has formed at the opening, controlling oil does not reach it either. A scar is also two problems in one place, the colour of the skin and the level of the surface, and treating one leaves the other.
That is why a textured skin treatment plan here is a combination rather than a single device. Two or more methods are applied in a planned order, and which ones apply to you is decided at consultation.
What the combination is built from
- Delivery into the dermis. Mirajet delivers a solution into the dermis quickly, without a needle or thermal injury, and it does not leave raised bumps. It is the usual way boosters are placed for this work.
- Boosters matched to the pattern. Collagen builders, PN and hydration boosters are chosen for what the skin lacks. Five skin complaints and the boosters usually matched to each sets out how that matching works.
- Clinic-based skincare. Medical Skincare combines two or more modalities in one session. Its aqua peel step dissolves and removes debris from deep in the pore, then replaces moisture, and is used for texture, dullness and sebum.
- Scar methods where scarring dominates. Where the opening has been reshaped by inflammation, the plan borrows from the Scar and Stretch Mark Program.

How the cost is explained
The Pore Program has no single price, because it is a combination. Each component is quoted from the in-house schedule once the plan is set. Two examples from that schedule, as of September 2026:
| Component | KRW (VAT 10% extra) | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Rejuran | 300,000 - 800,000 | The product, the delivery method, and whether sedation is chosen |
| Mirajet | 300,000 - 1,400,000 | Mirajet itself, plus what is delivered through it |
These are ranges, not a package. Overseas patients are charged the same as Korean patients, and amounts are set in Korean won. The figure for your plan is confirmed with you before anything starts.
What a visit looks like
A Pore Program session takes about 30 to 40 minutes under topical cream, and you return to normal activity the same day. A Medical Skincare session runs about 60 to 80 minutes with no anaesthesia and no downtime. Pore work is normally a course rather than a single session, and your doctor proposes a realistic sequence against the time you have in Korea.
If skin texture treatment korea is one part of a longer trip, how to plan a week in Seoul sets out the order that usually works. Directions are on the visiting page.
Questions patients ask us
What causes textured skin?
Usually one of three patterns, often more than one at once: scarring that has reshaped the pore opening, loss of the elasticity that holds the pore in shape, or high sebum output that keeps the opening stretched. Sebum, ageing, UV exposure and over-exfoliation can all make it worse.
Can textured skin be made permanently smooth?
We do not promise that. The causes keep changing with age and environment, so the programme aims to improve the appearance and keep the causes managed rather than to close pores permanently.
Is a facial enough for uneven skin texture?
Sometimes it helps, particularly where sebum is the main pattern. Where the cause is weakened collagen or a scar at the opening, surface care alone tends to fall short, which is why the pattern is assessed first.
How long does a session take, and is there downtime?
A Pore Program session takes about 30 to 40 minutes under topical cream, and you return to normal activity the same day. Whether make-up is fine afterwards depends on the method used, and your doctor tells you before you leave.
How much does textured skin treatment cost?
There is no single price because it is a combination. Components are quoted from the in-house schedule, for example Rejuran at 300,000 to 800,000 KRW and Mirajet at 300,000 to 1,400,000 KRW, VAT at 10% charged separately.
I am only in Seoul for a few days. Is that workable?
Tell us your dates first. Pore work is normally a course, so your doctor plans what can reasonably be done inside your stay and what should be spaced out, rather than compressing it.
