Fat dissolving injections Korea, for the small pocket of fat that stayed after the weight came off
In short The fat dissolving injections Korea clinics offer break down a small pocket of fat, usually under the chin or along the jaw, over several weeks. They suit people near a stable weight, not weight loss.

The fat dissolving injections Korea clinics offer are small injections placed into a pocket of fat just under the skin, usually under the chin, along the jawline or in the lower cheeks, where they break down part of that fat over the following weeks. They suit someone close to a stable weight with one stubborn area, and they are not a way to lose weight. For anyone flying in, the practical worry is the swelling: whether a puffy jaw will still be there at the airport or in Monday's meeting.
At Symphony Dermatology in Seoul, the physician who consults you is the one who injects you, and an interpreter stays with you from reception to the treatment room in English, Japanese or Chinese. The face program is Cell In&Out, our lipolysis injection (about 20 minutes, numbing cream, same-day return), and fullness right under the chin has its own option, V-OLET for the double chin (about 10-15 minutes, numbing cream, same day).

The injection breaks fat cells, slowly
Injected fat-dissolving solutions break the membrane of fat cells, and the body clears them over the following weeks. A 2018 review in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery describes deoxycholate, a bile salt, acting like a detergent on fat cells. Nothing is removed on the day.
Is the fullness under your chin fat or skin?
People often pinch the area and ask exactly this. Soft fat you can grab between two fingers is what these injections target; thin skin that folds rather than bulges is a lifting question, where a device such as Sofwave, which works at a set 1.5 mm depth, fits better.
Who Korean fat dissolving injections tend to suit
An adult at a stable weight with a pinchable pocket on the chin, jaw or cheeks, who accepts a gradual change. The 2018 review states injection lipolysis is not a treatment for obesity and cannot replace liposuction.
Not sure which side you're on? Send one side-profile photo of your chin and jaw on WhatsApp. A consultant reads it with the physician and replies with whether it looks like fat an injection can reach, which option fits, and how many days in Seoul to plan for.
How many swollen days should you plan before the flight home?
One to two, then a few weeks when the area may feel lumpy. In the 2018 series (Thomas et al.), local swelling lasted 24-48 hours, and firm nodules appeared in more than half of cases, settling over 3-4 weeks.
Stinging lasted the first few hours in that series. The clinic lists same-day return for Cell In&Out.
Same-day return means you walk out and carry on with the day. It does not mean the jaw looks untouched that evening, and under the chin the swelling is easier to see from the side than from the front. The table below maps the reported course onto a trip.
| When | What the 2018 series reported | What it means on a trip |
|---|---|---|
| First hours | Stinging at the injection points | Keep the afternoon quiet |
| Day 1-2 | Local swelling, 24-48 hours | Let this happen in Seoul, not on the plane |
| Weeks 1-4 | Firm nodules in more than half of cases, settling over 3-4 weeks | You may feel them at home when you touch the area |
| Week 4 onward | Minimum interval before the next session | A second session usually means a second trip |
The practical consequence: an injection on the first or second day of a trip leaves the swelling's peak inside your stay. The clinic is open weekdays 10:00-19:00 and Saturdays 10:00-17:00, and closed Sundays and Korean public holidays, including the days around Lunar New Year and Chuseok, so check those dates before you book flights.
If your dates are already fixed, add them to the same WhatsApp message as your photo, and the treatment day can be placed around your arrival and departure.
Risks, side effects and who should skip it
Most effects are local and temporary, and a few are worth knowing by name. Beyond swelling and nodules, the 2018 review recorded redness, darker skin patches (mostly on knees and inner thighs, usually fading by the third month), a handful of cases with marked inflammation, and nausea or malaise when large total doses were used.
For the jaw, the one to know about is a nerve. A 2024 systematic review in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum (Shridharani and Kennedy) reports that in the main trials of a deoxycholic acid injection for under-chin fat, temporary weakness of the marginal mandibular nerve, which shows as an uneven smile, occurred in 4% of treated patients (20 of 513) and resolved on its own. Real-world rates in that review ranged from about 2% to 5%.
The same authors tie skin ulceration to injections placed too shallow, in the skin instead of the fat, and list bruising and hematoma, which is why blood thinners matter.
The 2018 review excluded people who were pregnant or breastfeeding, had an infection or skin problem at the site, took blood thinners, were immunocompromised, had untreated hormonal conditions such as hypothyroidism, or were allergic to egg or soy (relevant to phosphatidylcholine formulas). Expecting a dramatic change was on their list too. A firm lump under the jaw is examined first, to make sure it is not a gland or a lymph node.
Once you are home, the CDC's medical tourism guidance suggests carrying copies of your treatment records and knowing where you would get follow-up care locally. Aftercare questions go to the same WhatsApp thread you booked on; if your smile looks uneven or a patch of skin darkens or breaks down, send photos there and see a doctor near you as well. Candidacy itself is confirmed at the in-person exam in Seoul.
How many sessions, and why one trip may cover only the first
Expect more than one session. In the 2018 series, patients had an average of four sessions at least 4 weeks apart, with most of the visible change after the first. A single week in Seoul fits one session, not a course.
That is why a fat dissolving injections Korea plan for a traveler usually starts with one session and a look at the result at home before the next trip is booked. Cell In&Out is planned by area, with a recipe per region for face and body lines, so the chin and the jaw corners can be dosed differently in the same visit.
Some people have the opposite problem as well. Weight loss can leave a full chin and hollow cheeks at the same time, and dissolving fat in the cheeks would make that worse. Hollow areas are a collagen question; our collagen center uses stimulators such as Juvelook and Re2O, and choosing between Juvelook and Juvelook Volume explains how that decision is made.
If you are comparing other ways to refine the lower face, Rejuran in Korea and Ultherapy in Korea: common questions cover what people usually ask next.
Small surprises on the day of treatment
The injecting itself is short. Cell In&Out takes about 20 minutes and V-OLET about 10-15 minutes once the numbing cream has worked, so most of the visit is the consultation and the wait for the cream.
The room is yours. Symphony works by appointment only, one patient at a time in a private room, and the interpreter comes into the treatment room with you, not only to reception. The team has four physicians, and the doctor who consults you is the one who performs the treatment; Dr. Hyun Kyung-bae has practised at Symphony for 17 years.
Getting there is simple: the clinic is on the second floor of the Sinsa Hill Building, 165 Dosan-daero, about a 10-minute walk from Exit 8 of Sinsa Station on Line 3. The location and hours page has the map and bus stops, and the Symphony English-language home page lists every treatment center if you want to compare options for fat dissolving injections in Seoul first.

Your first WhatsApp message needs two things: a side-profile photo of the area with your head level, and your dates in Seoul. A consultant reads it with the physician and replies with whether you look like a candidate, whether Cell In&Out, V-OLET or a lifting option fits, and how many days to leave before your flight.
Questions patients ask us
Are Korean fat dissolving injections the same as liposuction?
No. Liposuction removes fat surgically in one procedure, while injections break down a smaller amount over several weeks and usually several sessions. The 2018 review in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery states that injection lipolysis cannot replace liposuction, so it fits small pockets rather than large volumes.
Can fat dissolving injections in Seoul treat belly fat without surgery?
Small body areas can be injected, and Symphony's Cell In&Out program plans face and body lines by area. The change is local and gradual, and injections are not a weight-loss method. A larger volume of belly fat is usually a surgical conversation, and a photo helps the physician judge which one you are looking at.
Do fat dissolving injections work on under-eye fat?
Under-eye bags usually involve fat pads around the eye that sit behind a thin membrane, along with skin and muscle changes, which is a different structure from chin fat. Fat dissolving injections are generally used on the lower face and body rather than around the eyes. Under-eye fullness needs its own assessment in person.
Is fat grafting the opposite of fat dissolving?
Yes. Fat grafting moves your own fat into hollow areas, while fat dissolving reduces fat where there is too much. After weight loss some people have both a full chin and hollow cheeks; on Symphony's dermatology floor, hollow areas are addressed with collagen stimulators such as Juvelook and Re2O.
How long does a fat dissolving injections Korea clinic appointment take?
The injecting takes about 20 minutes for Cell In&Out and about 10-15 minutes for V-OLET, both after numbing cream. Add time for the consultation and for the cream to work. The clinic is open weekdays 10:00-19:00 and Saturdays 10:00-17:00, closed Sundays and Korean public holidays.
Do the fat cells come back after fat dissolving injections in South Korea?
Fat cells damaged by the injection are cleared by the body. The fat cells left around them can still grow if you gain weight, so keeping a stable weight keeps the change looking the way it did. Response differs from person to person, which is one reason the course is planned one session at a time.
