Collaum (PLLA)

PLLA microspheres in the dermis, building collagen on your own timetable

Collaum is a PLLA microsphere product placed directly into the dermis. It adds nothing that stays — the particles are absorbed over six to eight months, and what remains is collagen your own skin produced. Of the collagen boosters we use, it is the one that asks for the most patience and gives the longest-running result.

Treatment time10–20 min
AnaesthesiaTopical cream, or sedation on request
DowntimeSame-day return
IntervalEvery 3–4 weeks

※ The final plan and cost are confirmed by your physician after an in-person examination at the clinic. Results and recovery vary by individual.

Collaum (PLLA)

What PLLA does in the skin

PLLA is a biocompatible, biodegradable material with FDA and CE approval. In Collaum it is formulated as microspheres, diluted and distributed evenly through the dermis rather than deposited in one place. The particle itself is not the result — it is the prompt.

Around three to four weeks after the session, the skin responds to the particles with a foreign body reaction, and that controlled response is what produces collagen in quantity. The particles are then absorbed and gradually broken down. Nothing synthetic is left behind; the change you keep is your own tissue. The formulation also dissolves quickly for injection, which keeps the session short, and the microsphere form is designed to minimise granuloma, nodule and clumping.

How the result builds

  1. 01The loss is identifiedWrinkles and volume loss caused by ageing are assessed, area by area, before anything is injected.
  2. 02Diluted PLLA microspheres are placedThe particles are injected evenly through the dermal layer. Even distribution is the technical point here — uneven placement is what causes uneven results.
  3. 03Collagen is producedAt three to four weeks a foreign body reaction to the particles generates collagen in quantity.
  4. 04The particles leave, the collagen staysOver six to eight months the PLLA microspheres are absorbed and gradually degrade, while the collagen produced is maintained for twelve to eighteen months.

What to expect, and when

Response varies between individuals. This is the pattern we describe at consultation so the waiting period does not feel like a failure.

ON THE DAY
Return to normal activity is expected. There is no immediate volume to see — the material placed is a prompt, not a filler.
3–4 WEEKS
The foreign body reaction generates collagen in quantity. This is also the usual interval to a repeat session if a course is planned.
6–8 MONTHS
The PLLA microspheres are absorbed and gradually broken down.
12–18 MONTHS
The collagen produced is maintained over this period. Repeat sessions are planned to build on it rather than to replace it.

A hyaluronic acid filler, and Collaum

Patients frequently arrive asking for one and leave having discussed the other. The distinction is worth understanding before you choose.

Two formulations, chosen by depth of concern

The numbers are not strengths of the same thing. They are aimed at different problems.

COLLAUM™ 120 — collagen skin booster
Aimed at skin texture, tone, fine lines, pores and scarring. Suited to skin that has become thin and lost elasticity, where the complaint is about surface quality rather than shape.
COLLAUM™ 240 — collagen volume booster
Aimed at volume, deep wrinkles, lifting and tightening. Suited to deeper lines and depressed acne scarring, and to patients who want natural volume where extensive filler work would feel like too much.
Repetition is part of the design
Collagen built through periodic repeat sessions is intended to hold longer than a single session can achieve. The schedule is set at consultation, not sold as a package in advance.
The two are often combined
One face can need 120 across the cheeks for texture and 240 along a deeper fold in the same plan. Which zones take which is decided from the skin, not from the price list.

Why we might choose Collaum for you

Choosing a booster is really choosing a layer and a timeframe. These are the readings that point toward PLLA.

When time is available
The collagen arrives from three to four weeks and holds for twelve to eighteen months. If you need a visible change for a date next week, this is not the right tool and we will say so.
When you would rather not carry material
Patients who dislike the idea of a gel sitting in the face often prefer a route where the injected material leaves and only their own collagen remains.
When the dermis is what has thinned
Collaum works in the dermal layer. If the problem is deeper support, a different depth — and often a different product — is the better answer.
When it is one line in a longer plan
Boosters are frequently combined with treatments at other depths. Reading which layers have changed, and in what order to address them, is the part that decides the result.

Questions we are asked most

Will I see anything on the day?

No meaningful volume, and that is by design. Collaum places a prompt rather than a filler; collagen is generated from around three to four weeks. If you need a result for a specific date, tell us at consultation so the schedule can be worked backwards.

How is this different from Juvelook?

Both stimulate your own collagen. Collaum is a PLLA microsphere product placed in the dermal layer; Juvelook combines PDLLA with hyaluronic acid and comes in four particle sizes for different depths. Which we suggest depends on the layer being treated and how your skin has responded before.

Does anything stay in my face?

The PLLA microspheres are absorbed and gradually degrade over six to eight months. What remains after that is the collagen your own skin produced.

What about lumps?

The microsphere formulation is designed to minimise granuloma, nodule formation and clumping, and even distribution through the dermis is the injector's responsibility. This is one of the reasons we take time over the placement rather than the product choice alone.

Can I fly home the same day?

Yes. Same-day return to normal activity is expected, and there is no dressing to manage while travelling.

What we look at before anything is switched on

01
Skin analysis first
Skin type, thickness and condition are assessed before settings are chosen, so energy levels and tips match the skin in front of us rather than a default protocol.
02
Planned and performed by a physician
The doctor who consults you draws up the plan and carries it out. Nothing is delegated after the consultation.
03
Layered, not single-device
Treatments are combined by depth and symptom, with intervals planned around your recovery.
04
Care that continues
Conditioning before, calming immediately after, and home-care guidance through recovery — then the next session is adjusted to how your skin responded.
